Valuable insights into the media industry were gained during a Graduate School tour to publisher Ming Pao on November 4 2025. During the visit, postgraduate students observed the entire process of newspaper production and learned how different departments utilise archival resources.

Various Ming Pao staff members introduced the journalism process by explaining the roles of formal and informal sources in gathering local and international news. They then discussed the next stages, including interviewing, writing, typesetting and editorial approval before publishing.

Despite the dominance of electronic publishing, Ming Pao remains committed to print editions with a strong focus on high-quality colour production. The tour of the presses revealed two daily sessions running between 8 pm and 9 pm and 3 am and 4 am. Editorial team members emphasised the importance of effective communication, as the tight deadlines and short printing sessions necessitated careful coordination.

Students and staff expanded on the discussion of timing in light of the challenges faced during media transformation. These include the high cost of digitisation and the hurdles faced by traditional media professionals transitioning to new platforms.

Addressing industry characteristics, staff noted that journalists and editors often faced obstacles. They said that maintaining a positive mindset is essential. Additionally, they encouraged students to stay informed about global news to better understand societal trends.
