The challenges of creating and maintaining a Bonsai display were introduced to 50 eager postgraduate students on December 19, 2025. The workshop focused on succulent plants, which require lower maintenance.

Participants exercised their creativity with step-by-step guidance from the Sunset lab. The process began by creating a stable and attractive base for the plant. This involved carefully layering different coloured sands in a glass vase to create patterns which were topped with nutrient-rich soil. Participants completed their creations by adding plants and decorations.

Focusing on the display’s curation gave students time to relieve stress and focus on the present. Planting and decorating their Bonsai enabled them to express their creativity and interact with nature. The Bonsai workshop has shown students how a little effort can go a long way to cultivating well-being.
