The Journal Publication Process was the topic of a well-received workshop by Dr Lucas Kohnke, EdD Programme Coordinator and Senior Lecturer from the Department of English Language Education, on October 24th.

The workshop began with an interactive warm-up that enabled a relaxed and engaging learning atmosphere. Dr Kohnke emphasised the critical importance of identifying an appropriate journal by evaluating its scope, audience, impact factor, and academic reputation. Additionally, he recommended several tools for finding suitable journals, including Scopus, one of the largest and most respected research databases.

Key components of a well-structured abstract were explored, including the introduction, which provides context; the purpose, outlining research aims; the methodology, detailing research approaches and participant numbers; the results, presenting key outcomes; and the conclusions, highlighting the study’s significance and impact.

Addressing the peer review process, the workshop clearly mapped out the complete workflow, from submission and editorial screening to expert review and final decision. Dr Kohnke specifically shared strategies for responding to reviewer comments: researchers should remain professional and polite, address each comment point-by-point and clearly indicate all revisions made. Dr Kohnke also stressed the importance of clear, concise language, advising participants to avoid jargon and vague terminology.

Researchers were also encouraged to maximise the impact of their work by sharing on platforms such as ResearchGate and LinkedIn, attending conferences, collaborating with others, and tracking impact metrics.
