Postgraduate students explored innovation and career opportunities during a visit to Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited on 5 November 2025.

The visit commenced with a session led by former Group Management Trainees (GMTs), who had successfully transitioned to full-time roles at Towngas. They shared their experiences of the GMT programme, emphasising its focus on professional growth and leadership development. Key advice for applicants included refining their CVs, improving proficiency in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, and expanding their knowledge of emerging energy technologies.

The students also explored two themed exhibition halls: the Hall of Innovation and the Hall of Future Energy. The former showcased tools and technologies developed by Towngas employees, highlighting a culture of internal innovation. The latter presented Towngas’ development plans for hydrogen energy initiatives and a long-term vision for advancing Hong Kong’s green transition and sustainable development goals.

The visit also included on-site observations of the communications hub and the grid control centre. The communications hub handles enquiries from users across Hong Kong, China, while the grid control centre monitors the city’s gas pipelines via a real-time system to ensure a rapid response to emergencies.

The event broadened students’ understanding of the operational and technological landscape of the energy sector, while opening up diverse career pathways for participants from multidisciplinary backgrounds.
