The workshop was delivered by Dr Fridolin Ting Sze Thou from the Office of the Vice President (Research and Development) and the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology (MIT). The online workshop aimed at exploring the multifaceted role of artificial intelligence in reshaping educational practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop began with an interactive discussion of commonly used AI tools. Dr Kohnke highlighted AI\u2019s role in supporting teachers through practices such as customising learning materials and tracking student progress over time. Dr Ting then presented a critical analysis of GenAI integration in classrooms, discussing both its benefits and pitfalls. He also introduced tools for tailored learning solutions such as YoChatGPT! .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A key focus for participants was the ethical dilemmas in AI-driven education. Dr Ting further addressed the significance of metacognitive engagement in AI-assisted learning environments, warning against \u201cmetacognitive laziness\u201d or over-reliance on AI tools. He underscored the necessity of guiding students in the effective and ethical use of AI to maximise learning benefits and mitigate potential harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop concluded with practical demonstrations of developing custom AI chatbots without coding. Participants gained balanced insights into both the opportunities and challenges of implementing AI in education.
